Don’t Forget!
We are going to reach the 5th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death, in June 25 (2014), and the fans are still sad about his death, questions still remain unanswered, and the Jackson family is still shocked. Some try to be the New King of Pop, others say Michael Jackson is still the best, and medias still trash him, even in death…
However, there’s is a “good new” upcoming soon: a new album with non-released songs is upcoming on 13th May!
Wait? Who said it’s a good new? Is the estate doing a good job?
Let me remind you a simple facts about the relationship between Sony and Michael Jackson…
Michael Jackson bought the “Northern songs” catalog in 1985, which became “Sony/ATV Music publishing” later, it is a catalog with lots of songs in, songs from the best singers in the world as The Beatles and Elvis Presley. He sold 50% percent of the catalog to Sony in 1995, and got 50% of the catalog. Since that day, the following events seem to be linked…
This is a short sum up of the following events that I found on Wikipedia:
“
Six years after HIStory, Michael Jackson released Invincible on the 31st of October, 2001. Michael Jackson started recording the album in October 1997, and finished the recordings of the album with You Are My Life only eight weeks before the release of the album. With an estimated $ 30 million budget, the album Invincible is the most expensive of the music industry. With the release of the album, CBS broadcasted Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Special, a special event to celebrate the thirty years of the solo career of Michael Jackson.
The album debuted # 1 in the U.S. Billboard chart and in thirteen different countries. It was certified double platinum in the United States December 3, 2001. Following deep disagreements between Sony and Jackson, the record company shortens the promotion of the album, which lasts only three months. Only three singles from the album are: You Rock My World, Cry and Butterflies. In August 2009, the album sold 13 million copies worldwide, including 2.5 million copies in the United States. Although the numbers are impressive for any artist, Invincible is considered a semi-success, and its sales figures are disappointing compared to previous albums. Some blame for this failure on Michael Jackson, accusing him of refusing to do promotional tours , while Jackson accused Sony Music not having done enough to promote the album, having canceled the release of several singles, and have canceled the production of music videos accompanying the songs. Ultimately, it is also criticized for having published October 16, 2001 a special re-release of his album Dangerous, just two weeks before the Invincible output, in addition to having released too soon after the compilation Number ones, an orchestration that eclipsed Invincible and took on the appearance of a sabotage orchestrated by former director of Sony Music US Tommy Mottola. Following this series of incidents, Mottola will be fired.”
They boycott Michael Jackson’s Invincible and as crazy as it sounds, it’s true, unfortunately. After this boycott and after the trial of 2003-2005″People vs.Jackson”, Michael Jackson was ruined and nowadays his debts are evaluated around 500 000 millions dollars.
Sony obviously boycotted him, taking part in his bankruptcy. But why? When I dig deeper, this is what I found on YouTube:
Mottola was Fired after this event. He swore he will take his revenge, and then Michael Jackson had been accused of child molestation for the second time, in 2003.
Obviously, Sony wanted the catalog, which worse 1 billion dollars nowadays. We can understand the words of MJ’s eldest son Prince Jackson, about his last memories of his father’s anxiety, during the “Katherine Jackson vs. AEG live” trial last year: “They will kill me! They will kill me and take my catalog!” (His father said).
Sony signed a contract with the Estate after Michael Jackson’s death, even if Michael obviously hated them, and is now going to release songs on the new Michael Jackson album “Xscape”.
This is important to know these facts. We are all fans of the King of Pop, we love his music and admire him for his humanitarian work and true heart, his talent and his soul still lives in our heart, but you have to know what you are doing when you buy posthumous albums of him. I won’t personally buy it, because I don’t want to buy stuff from people who were involved in his bankruptcy and death.
